3. I think Virginia means that novelists’s want to remain undisturbed from their method of writing and even if that means not using their own thoughts and imagination. No i don’t agree because that defeats the purpose of writing fiction. A writer might want to be unconscious so to not draw any negative attention.
4. She means that she was reminded not to voice her mind, by the, “shadow of her wings…” And “rustling of her skirts in the room” seems to say that those thoughts that she feared were creeping up on her.
9. Its about the experience Virgina believes many women writers go through. That is they start writing “unconsciously” because they are afraid of what men might think then when they realize they must use their imagination they give up because they are too afraid to write with their conscious.
